Sure a slow-movin’ walk once a day, a fireplace and treats would seal the deal.

 5-year-old Harley is lookin’ for a joint that is ready to “Party All the TIME!!”

Ball throwin’, stick chasin’ and swimmin’ are MUSTs.

 4 year old Deuce just wants to be healthy.

Happy Hootie Day is also code for HAPPY B-DAY Poppa!!!

Yep, Hootie was picked up on Poppa’s b-day, so me and the fellas called Hootie Lil’ Poppa.

Poppa didn’t mind Hootie gettin’ in on the b-day action because Momma picked up some of his favorite eats while she was in LaLa Land.

WHAT Popppa DID mind was that Momma locked poor Hootie in her office all by himself.

I know, outrageous right?

Poor pup leaves the only home he has known,

Goes to a strange office and then is locked in a room by himself.

Why you ask?

“Cause Momma  shut Hootie in her office when she went down the hall and had forgotten to  unlock her office door. Tsk Tsk Momma…

The only other peep with a key to her office is Poppa, so he had to rush by the office on his way to a meeting and free Hootie from his captivity. Which is a good thing because locksmiths take WAY TOO LONG.  (Just ask Lance about the time he tried to open the door, ended up locking it, Poppa was far away at a meeting and Momma was out $172 to a locksmith. Or about the time Momma broke the door handle off with a hammer because Lance tried his sneaky flip the handle trick, locked the door and Poppa was out of town.)

Enough about Momma, not learning her lessons about taking her keys with her.  The good news is – Hootie didn’t make a peep, make a mess or misbehave – he curled up on MY visitor bed and had a little kip.

Hootie is a wonderful fella who needs a comfy place to hang his leash and an endless supply of tennis balls.

PS. We have 4 Goldies in need of pawcrossing as they fight the evil cancer.

My peeps have tried meds, behaviorists, training and a whole slew of other things to help Cooper unpack.

Cooper has come a long way, but he is still a work in progress.

The peeps latest attempt to help Cooper feel safe in the world is the THUNDERSHIRT.

Sure it looks a bit weird, sounds even weirder – but when Cooper gets an anxiety attack over scary sounds, he likes to dig at the walls or floor. You see Cooper HATES birds, thunderstorms and fireworks. The peeps can help med him when a storm or holiday is coming, but the screech of bird is darn near unpredictable. 

 Now Cooper slips into his THUNDERSHIRT and the world isn’t so scary, before he  needed to be crated for the safety of the house and his own well-being when the screech of a bird sent him into a tailspin.

Now the funny little shirt seems to be doing the trick and of course celebrating Hanukkah in September helps. Don’t tell Cooper I told you but he celebrates Hanukkah almost every day, can’t be without his Menorah.

Not sayin’ the THUNDERSHIRT will work for your pup – just know its makin’ a difference for Cooper.

PS. Looks like Claire has been adopted by a fabulous lady. We got 15 paws crossed for Sierra and that someone sees the golden beauty inside her and not the missin’ golden bits on the outside.

Meet Claire -

Claire is a ten-year old beauty who wanted NOTHIN’ to do with Momma. Claire couldn’t process why her family gave her away.  Was it because they loved her too much or loved her too little? These are tough questions for peeps to answer,  much less us canines to process.

I asked and asked Momma what she thought - was it too much love or not enough love? I wanted the story.

Momma  said “Ben, its hard to judge a man who sits in the back of the truck holding on to his dog and sobbing like a two-year old. And its even harder to judge a man whose dog whimpers and stares out the back window for 92 miles. It is easy to judge the person who gives up the dog who cowers, doesn’t look back and wants a new bff – not the person whose dog knows what love is.”

Meet Sierra -

First I gotta tell you Sierra is an honorary Golden, ’cause she has some Chessie in her and maybe a bit of this and that, but at the end of the day don’t we all have a bit of this and that?

What you need to know about Sierra is her life has been tough, but no tougher than her lady’s.  You see no one picks poverty, no one picks being homeless, no one picks being born down on their luck and always trying to pull themselves up.  What peeps do pick is how they treat their animals, how they treat other people and how big their heart is.

So, I guess what I’m saying is Sierra was loved so much that a lady with little luck, little belongings, limited places to go and a life harder than most – said “Sierra, my one and only I will set you free from this life I lead and trust that rescue brings you to a place of peace.”

So you see Claire and Sierra are different – 1 had every thing, the other nothing, yet the same – they were loved and now rescues needs to find  them that same love and understanding.

P.S. Sierra is Momma’s favorite rescue of 2011 and her person is Momma’s favorite peep. Why you ask? Because Sierra’s lady gave up the 1 being that she loved and loved her.

 I walked on water.

Tiger took a perfect tippytoe jump.

Coop attempted walkin’ on water and ended up turbo chestin’  after his toy.

Lance flew through the air with the greatest of ease.

We finished off the weekend with TREATS!!!

The mean peeps made us line up and show off our down & stay.

We all passed stay – but that down thing was a challenge for some of us.

All we could do was stared at Poppa waiting for “Okay, eat.”

I guess I need to concede that Lance is King, ’cause look at who did a perfect down & stay…all relaxed and regal like…

KING WOOS!!!

PS. Our dear rescue brother Kona passed this weekend. Please light a candle for him and think good things for his peeps.

Even I will concede that he sits as a King should, straight back, head held high and symmetrically placed feet.

 BUT look closely at this teeth – clearly not as straight or pearly white as MINE.

Shouldn’t a King have PERFECT teeth?

’cause this week is all about King Woos.

What is a King Woos you ask? His given name is Sir Lance Romance of Lancelot and like all favorites Lance has some how picked up the ridiculous title of “King” – nobody knows where the “Woos” came from but when a dog is called “King” does it really matter where the silly second name of endearment comes from? I say NO!!!.

I know you all think I am the special one out of the 4 of us hooligans, but truth is King Woos is the man. I often ask Momma “Why must Lance be King?”

The reply is always the same, “Ben, every pack must have a kind and benevolent ruler who walks softly and carries a big stick.”

Which I then bark out “I can be kind, benevolent and well maybe I would eat the stick but…MAKE ME THE KING.”

Momma just smiles as she says “Ben, your day will come.”

 I  CAN”T wait to be King and to make things worse we are building up to King Woos’ barkday and I need to do something to slow down the week of special treatment for King Woos which will reach epic barf worthy proportion. 

 So I thought – let me whip out this NOT so regal photo of the “KING.” I gleefully rub my paws together and dream of overthrowing his  reign and limiting the barkday festivities all with one incriminating picture of misbehavior.

You know what my Momma said?  “Ben, did you kick dirt on King Woos?”

Guess I am still waiting to be King, I hope I still get some of his birthday cake.

Two weeks ago Jack was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.

Jack’s peeps picked up the phone and called my peeps, they only knew 1 other tripaws…ME!!!! Thankfully I don’t have Osteosarcoma, but I do know a thing or two about giving up the spare leg. I went into full fairy dawg mode, gave them the good, the bad and the ugly on amputation.

What I didn’t know was how to explain to 3 kids under 11 what Jack was going to go thru, what his prognosis was and why it was A-OKAY to take a leg. Luckily Jack’s peeps are pretty smart. They told the kids the truth, we all know the truth isn’t pretty and there were lots of tears.

 Jack’s peeps told the kids  ”When you love someone you stand up, look the devil known as cancer in the eye and you throw everything at it that Jack can handle.  There is no running from adversity, we will stand together, hold each other tight and face the devil with all that we have and each decision will be made with what is right for Jack. And when it is time it is time.”

To all the Jack’s may your peeps love you as Jack’s peeps love him.

I myself, prefer a more sophisticated approach to encouraging the peeps to spring us from our servitude,  the ever so causal yawn.

Paws crossed they are swayed by our pleading brown eyes and we get home in time for happy hour.

Hello WORLD!!!

My typist has been workin’ like a dawg. I had a choice to make, get her to spend her free time walkin’ , swimmin’  and boatin’  me and the fellas or update the blog.

From the picture of my gorgeous self, you can tell I picked boatin’.

As a group we picked walkin’  -

this is  Tiger, ME, Coop and Lance practisin’  for California Dog Sled Championship.

Okay, so there is no such thing, but if there was we would win it by 15 paws.

Of course we excel at sledin’  ’cause this is the path to our dock and the reward of swimmin’ makes us crazy fast on a leash. 

On the weekdays we go off leash, but on the weekends the “police” are out and we don’t want to go to doggy jail or pay a fine.
