I sent Momma back out to transport some of my kindred spirits this week.
Meet Claire -
Claire is a ten-year old beauty who wanted NOTHIN’ to do with Momma. Claire couldn’t process why her family gave her away. Was it because they loved her too much or loved her too little? These are tough questions for peeps to answer, much less us canines to process.
I asked and asked Momma what she thought - was it too much love or not enough love? I wanted the story.
Momma said “Ben, its hard to judge a man who sits in the back of the truck holding on to his dog and sobbing like a two-year old. And its even harder to judge a man whose dog whimpers and stares out the back window for 92 miles. It is easy to judge the person who gives up the dog who cowers, doesn’t look back and wants a new bff – not the person whose dog knows what love is.”
Meet Sierra -

First I gotta tell you Sierra is an honorary Golden, ’cause she has some Chessie in her and maybe a bit of this and that, but at the end of the day don’t we all have a bit of this and that?
What you need to know about Sierra is her life has been tough, but no tougher than her lady’s. You see no one picks poverty, no one picks being homeless, no one picks being born down on their luck and always trying to pull themselves up. What peeps do pick is how they treat their animals, how they treat other people and how big their heart is.
So, I guess what I’m saying is Sierra was loved so much that a lady with little luck, little belongings, limited places to go and a life harder than most – said “Sierra, my one and only I will set you free from this life I lead and trust that rescue brings you to a place of peace.”
So you see Claire and Sierra are different – 1 had every thing, the other nothing, yet the same – they were loved and now rescues needs to find them that same love and understanding.
P.S. Sierra is Momma’s favorite rescue of 2011 and her person is Momma’s favorite peep. Why you ask? Because Sierra’s lady gave up the 1 being that she loved and loved her.
Travel Safe Claire and Siera.

We have rescued several “Claire’s”. Well loved dogs that suddenly found themselves homeless. They take a long time to give up on their memories and move on to tomorrow. I have heard people say that dogs live in the present, these people have never seen one in mourning for its family.
Thanks for all you do.

Today when I went to the rescue P. O. Box, I found an envelope with no return address. Inside was another sealed envelope with these hand written words on the outside, “Dear Golden Rescue Forever Friends, I only wish I had known about you on 11-12-10 when I was forced to surrender my beloved Spike who I adopted only 3 months prior. I never rescued Spike- he rescued me – he will always be one of the loves of my life. But my “residence” was stolen and I thought I had no choice. I love the poem ‘I Let You Go’. Then just recently I read the 805 magazine and read about you and your rescue. So this donation is very small in the ‘rescue of dogs and animals world’ but I have to start somewhere. Perhaps it may help one more beloved animal from leaving their family. Love from Spike.
Inside the second envelope was a $5.00 bill.
This is why we all work so hard in rescue.

Too right, dogs mourn & remember. It will be a challenge for these girls to adjust & trust.

Both heart breaking stories, but thank God for all those who Rescue & Foster that these beautiful animals will find a forever home.
Mogleys comment about mourning for its family is so very true, as we have witnessed this.

Your posts have this ability to break my heart and then restore hope all at once.
The work you do is important and good and I am grateful for everything you do. Thank you for that. The world is a better place because of you.

This one was so sweet and sad, it made me cry. Makes me want to hug up my boys, a little more, tell them how special they are again and tell them how loved they are for always. THanks for being there, for the dogs, and for the people who love them but have come upon hard times.

May Claire and Sierra quickly find a safe loving sanctuary where each can heal and try to understand. These precious souls deserve so much and their people deserve not judgement but rather the peace of knowing thatthey truly acted in the most noble aspect of love.

I hope we never have to part with Sam and Monty – for either reason.
